What we offer:

The Royal Ballet School Affiliate Training & Assessment Programme

The Royal Ballet School is a world leader in ballet education, nurturing exceptional, versatile young dancers for The Royal Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet and other leading companies globally. The School has developed their Affiliate Training and Assessment Programme (ATAP) to:

  • extend the School’s expertise and System of Training to dance teachers in the UK and around the globe

  • raise the standard of recreational dance training, making sure everyone can access training of a consistently high quality

  • allow flexibility and versatility in the teaching approach to open up ballet training to many more children, including those with different learning needs

  • foster a love of dance in students by teaching repertoire, choreography and appreciation alongside technique.

Programme content is based on The Royal Ballet School’s Model for Optimal Dance Training. Each level contains both movement and contextual studies to provide a holistic approach to training. Movement studies include foundation movement skills, generic movement skills, qualitative movement skills and ballet technique and vocabulary. Contextual studies include the study of repertoire, choreography, creative tasks, and art form appreciation.

Students are assessed internally and results are moderated by The Royal Ballet School.

The programme runs one Sunday per month and can be attended alongside regular ballet classes (we encourage this!). We welcome students from other dance schools with their teacher's permission. Places are limited to ensure all students receive individual attention and coaching.

The Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus

The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) was founded in 1920 with a single purpose: to raise the standards of dance teaching in the UK. Today, the RAD is a world-leading dance, education and training organisation enriching the world’s arts and cultural communities.

From three year olds to 93-year olds the RAD believes in the transformative power of dance to enhance our health and happiness.

What are the benefits of taking RAD examinations?

  • Exams are an opportunity for students to perform in front of an examiner, and celebrate their progress.

  • They are a goal to work towards, alongside other dancing objectives.

  • They are a globally recognised qualification.

  • In the UK, some of the RAD exams can be converted into UCAS points.

We enter students of all ages from Pre-Primary - Grade 8 as well as offering the RADs Vocatoinal Syllabus to students who would like a more in-depth approach to their training.
